2010 Classes
We knit for many reasons, to relax, to create, and to learn. Here at the Whippletree we provide a variety of new and interesting classes to move your craft to the next level. Please check back as we continue to add more classes for your enjoyment. If you prefer a private or semi-private lesson, call us at 802-457-1325 for details.
Join us on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 8:30pm for free help, or simply to knit and enjoy the company of fellow knitters.
*Unless specified, yarns and patterns are included in class fee.
FREE Beginner Knitting Class
Beginner/ 1-1 1/2 hour session.
Learn the basic knit stitch, binding off, and casting on.
Bring light colored worsted wool yarn and a pair of #7 needles. These can also be purchased at the Whippletree.

Next Step Hat $25
Beginner/ 2– 2 hr sessions.
Take the "next step" after beginner scarves. Learn to knit on circular and double pointed needles.

Cable Wristers $25
Intermediate Beginner/ 2– 2 hr sessions.
Learn to knit cables and a thumb gusset while making these worsted weight "fingerless" mitts. Student needs to know how to knit with double pointed needles.

Socks $30
Intermediate Beginner/ 2 – 2 hr sessions.
Learn the fundamentals while knitting a small sock in worsted weight yarn.
We think you should be warned: “Knitting socks can be habit forming.”
Student needs to know how to use double pointed needles.

Finishing Class $30
Intermediate Beginner/ 1 – 2 1/2 hr session.
Back by popular demand! Learn to sew side seams for stockinette stitch, garter stitch, and ribbing. We will also cover methods of joining shoulders, sleeve placements, picking up stitches for necklines and button bands, making basic buttonholes, and how to crochet a simple edging. NOTE: There is pre-class homework required for this class. Instructions available when you register.

Entrelac $50
Intermediate/Advanced / 2 – 2 hr sessions.
Learn this intriguing technique where knitted blocks build upon knitted blocks to give the illusion of a woven fabric. The first class will teach knitting "to and fro" (knitting forwards and backwards without turning). This makes entrelac so much easier. Then choose a handpainted or varigated yarn and watch the play of color as you knit a scarf. NOTE: Yarn for the scarf is not included in price of this class.

Color Block Christmas Stocking $50

Learn the color stranding technique knitting this warm and cozy hat displaying a vivid spectrum of colors.

Intermediate Beginner/ 3-2 hour sessions
Cables are easier than you think. Create this warm and quick winter hat while you learn the fundamentals of cables.

Basic Mittens $50
Intermediate Beginner/ 3 – 2 1/2 hr sessions
Knit a pair of worsted weight mittens with an elastic cast on, natural thumb gusset, and grafted tip. Students need to know how to knit with double pointed needles.

Class Registration Information
You may register in person at the Whippletree Yarn Shop or by phone, 802-457-1325. We require a 50% non-refundable deposit to hold your place in class. Deposits will be refunded only if the Whippletree Yarn Shop cancels the class. A minimum of 2 students is required for a class to run. Maximum for each class is 6 students.
