2012--2013 Classes
We knit for many reasons; to relax, to create, and to learn. Here at the Whippletree we provide a variety of new and interesting classes to move your craft to the next level. Please check back as we continue to add more classes for your enjoyment. If you prefer a private or semi-private lesson, call us at 802-457-1325 for details.
You may register in person at the Whippletree Yarn Shop or call us at 802-457-1325. We require a 50% non-refundable deposit to hold your place in class. Deposits will be refunded only if the Whippletree Yarn Shop cancels the class. A minimum of 2 students is required for a class to run. Maximum for each class is 6 students.

Beginner Knitting Class $25
New Beginner/ 2 - 2 hour sessions
This class is designed for the "newbie". You will learn to cast on stitches, knit, purl, and bind off stitches; the core skills of knitting. To start, you'll need a light colored worsted wool yarn and a pair of #7 straight needles. This cowl is the first project option, after the basic skills are covered. Instructor: Shelley

Stained Glass Hat $30
Intermediate Beginner/ 3 – 2 hr sessions.
Have you always wanted to do color stranding? In this class you'll learn how to work with 2 colors of worsted weight yarn to create this Stained Glass Hat. If one yarn is multi-colored the hat can have a dramatic appearance like the sample shown. Students should be comfortable knitting on circular and double pointed needles. Needles required are US #7 16" circular and double pointed. Instructor: Karen Boutin

Finishing Class $30
Intermediate Beginner/ 1 – 2 1/2 hr session.
Back by popular demand! Learn to sew side seams for stockinette stitch, garter stitch, and ribbing. We will also cover methods of joining shoulders, sleeve placements, picking up stitches for necklines and button bands, making basic buttonholes, and how to crochet a simple edging. NOTE: There is pre-class homework required for this class. Instructions available when you register. Instructor: Andrea

Intermediate Cables $30
Intermediate Beginner/ 3 – 2 hr sessions.
Ready for more than a basic cable and want to learn to read cable charts? In this class you'll knit a more complicated cable band to be used in a hat or alone as a headband. Provisional cast on and 3-needle bind-off will also be covered. Instructor: Shelley

Next Step Hat $25
Beginner/ 2– 2 hr sessions.
You can knit and purl, but want to knit in the round. In this class, you'll learn knitting with circular needles, as well as double-point needles, how to measure gauge, and to knit I-Cord. A child's hat topped with an I-Cord knot is the project. Once you've knit with the double pointed needles, you're prepared to go onto socks, mittens, or any other garment in the round. Cables
Intermediate Beginner/ 3-2 hour sessions
Cables are easier than you think. Create this warm and quick winter hat while you learn the fundamentals of cables.

Basic Mittens
Intermediate Beginner/ 3 – 2 1/2 hr sessions
Knit a pair of worsted weight mittens with an elastic cast on, natural thumb gusset, and grafted tip. Students need to know how to knit with double pointed needles.

Cabled Wristers $25
Intermediate Beginner/ 2 - 2 hr sessions
We all love the fingerless mitts. In this class you'll create a pair with easy mock cables. Knowing how to knit with double pointed needles is a plus, but not necessary. You'll need a skein of light or medium shade worsted weight yarn, #5 double pointed needles, and stitch markers. Instructor: Andrea
